What do you mean by “Personal Branding”?

Personal Branding represents how other people see you from what they find out about you online and how they perceive you in real life. We talk about the idea(s) people have about you during your Design Consultation and this helps me tailor the images we create to your brand.

What does “Magazine Style” mean?

Magazine Style Portraiture is exactly that: Portraiture created in a controlled studio setting, just like you would see in a magazine. With Jennifer Horst Photography, you’ll experience a magazine style studio shoot in my studio in Chapel Hill, NC and feel like you should be on the cover of a magazine.

What comes with the personal branding and portrait sessions again?

A session with Jennifer Horst Photography includes the following:

– Design consultation
– Wardrobe styling
– Professional hair for one
– Professional makeup for one
– Fully guided posing through multiple outfits/backgrounds/lighting setups
– Immediate image reveal where you select the images you love.
– The session retainer is applied 100% toward your purchase.

What comes with the As I Am session?

The As I Am session experience with Jennifer Horst Photography includes the following:

– Design consultation
– Wardrobe guidance
– Posing prompts through multiple outfits/backgrounds/lighting setups
– Immediate image reveal where you select the images you love.
– The session retainer is applied 100% toward your purchase.

What’s the process again?

We start with an introductory phone call, where I answer any questions you may have about the process and pricing and we decide if we’re a good fit to work together. Once the contract is signed and the session retainer is paid, we meet in person or online for the Design Consultation where we talk through all the ins and outs of why you want your images and how you’re going to use them. This includes getting to know you and/or your brand better, some color theory and details on how to prepare for your session.

On the day of your session, we talk through the wardrobe options you’ve brought and while you’re in hair and makeup, I plan out what outfits to wear with what backgrounds. Then we move into the session itself and go through all of the looks and setups I’ve planned out for you. After that, we review your images and you select the ones you love and want to keep.

I typically take 10-15 business days to give your images a full, professional retouch and then deliver them to you via Dropbox. You’ll have 48 hours to review and approve and I’ll provide one additional round of revisions, if needed, as part of my service. Additional revisions are at an additional fee. Once images are approved, I deliver them to you via Dropbox and if you’ve chosen printed products, send them off to be made at that time. I’ll contact you to schedule a pickup appointment once they’ve arrived and I’ve been able to review and make sure they’re perfect for you to display at home or in the workplace.

If I don’t want the hair and makeup, will my session cost less?

No. Professional Hair and Makeup for one is complimentary with the session and declining the service will not alter the price. Having your hair and makeup done professionally isn’t something you’re likely to do often so why not take advantage of the opportunity to pamper yourself? You’ll be fussed over during the session and we can take a day look to evening glam in minutes. You’ll feel like a star!

I’m in but want to lose X lbs first.

Totally understand! We’ve ALL heard that the camera adds ten pounds, but what if I could take those pounds away for you? It’s true. I’m good for at least 10 by using a combination of posing & directing plus some technical tricks with my camera and lens choice. Don’t wait to celebrate yourself with professional portraiture. I’ve got you!

How long should I plan for the session?

A typical session lasts roughly four hours. The first 60-90 minutes are for being pampered by my experienced Hair and Makeup Artist. We’ll spend roughly 1-1.5 hours creating your imagery and then another half hour or so going through them so you can choose which images you wish to purchase. I typically start sessions at either 8 am or 1 pm on weekdays, Tuesday through Friday.

How do I prepare for my session?

We talk through all of the details for preparing for your session at the Design Consultation. This includes what to wear, what accessories to bring, and how to prepare your skin, hair and nails.

Will my images be retouched?

Yes. I provide a full retouch (background, skin, hair, etc.) to all of my branding and portrait imagery. We’ll talk through the level of retouching in your image selection.

Raw portraits will have minimal adjustments for tonal range in black and white imagery, but no skin or hair retouching is included.

Do you work with teams?

I do! Please contact me for a custom quote based on your imagery needs.

Do you work on location?

I do, for an additional fee. Locations do require a bit more work than being in my studio, where I control all of the elements and we’re not competing with the day’s weather conditions or other people that may be in the area. Another aspect of location work is that some locations require permits, which will vary in cost from one location to another and is not included in the cost of the session.

We can talk through all of this and see if being on location truly makes sense for your imagery and if it does, I will create a custom quote based on your needs.

What are these award badges I’m seeing on your work?

The badges represent awards I’ve earned towards an accreditation through The Portrait Masters. I’m proud to have achieved the level of Associate in 2024 and you can read all about it here.
